Outing Class SD Edu Global: “Cultivating SD Edu Global Students’ Appreciation for Cirebon by Exploring Its History and Culture”

 

    


SD Edu Global Cirebon is committed to nurturing students' interests, talents, and appreciation for both themselves and their environment through engaging learning experiences. One such initiative is the Outing Class Program, conducted once every semester. For the 2024/2025 academic year, the program carries a special theme: Local Wisdom.

    The first outing class of the academic year took place on Thursday, September 19, 2024, under the theme “Cirebon: The City of Heritage.” The objective was to cultivate students' appreciation for Cirebon’s rich history and cultural heritage through an immersive exploration of the city’s landmarks.

A Day of Cultural Discovery

    The day began with first-grade students gathering at school for their morning routine before embarking on their educational journey across Cirebon. Accompanied by teachers, the students traveled on Citros (Cirebon Tourism on Bus) to their first destination: Gedung Negara. Here, they learned about the building’s historical significance, dating back to 1865, when it was originally known as Gedung Karesidenan Cirebon, serving as the official residence of colonial officials and the administrative center of the region. The students also had an interactive experience feeding deer in the area, adding a fun and engaging element to their visit.

    Following their time at Gedung Negara, the journey continued to Keraton Kacirebonan, a site that left students in awe. At the palace, they explored the royal complex and its museum, which houses a variety of historical artifacts. Under the shade of the palace’s lush trees, the students participated in a Cirebonese mask-painting activity, a hands-on cultural experience that sparked their creativity and deepened their appreciation for local traditions. The diverse collection of artifacts and traditional masks further ignited their curiosity about Cirebon’s rich cultural legacy.

    As the outing drew to a close, the students returned to school by midday, where they took time to rest and document their experiences through written reports, reinforcing their newfound knowledge and insights.

Enriching Learning Through Experiential Activities

    The Outing Class Program at SD Edu Global Cirebon serves as an effective educational approach to instill cultural awareness and historical appreciation in students. By experiencing history firsthand, students develop a deeper connection to their heritage, fostering a sense of pride and curiosity that extends beyond the classroom. With the continued implementation of this program, SD Edu Global Cirebon remains dedicated to providing holistic and engaging learning experiences that shape well-rounded, culturally aware individuals.

SD Edu Global Cirebon berupaya menumbuhkan minat dan bakat serta apresiasi siswa terhadap diri juga lingkungan yang diimplementasikan dalam kegiatan outing class. Kegiatan tersebut dilaksanakan satu kali dalam satu semester. Pada tahun ajaran 2024/2025 kegiatan outing class memiliki tema khusus yaitu kearifan lokal. Outing class yang pertama telah dilaksanakan pada Kamis 19 September 2024 dengan tema “Cirebon: The City of Heritage.” Kegiatan kali ini bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan apresiasi siswa terhadap Cirebon dengan menggali sejarah dan budayanya.

Pagi hari siswa kelas satu berkumpul di sekolah dan melakukan morning routine sebelum melakukan perjalanan berkeliling kota Cirebon. Siswa bersama guru mengendarai Citros (Cirebon Tourism on Bus) menuju Gedung Negara. Di sana siswa mengenal sejarah Gedung Negara yang dibangun sekitar tahun 1865 dan semula tempat ini bernama Gedung Kerasidenan Cirebon yang merupakan rumah dinas dari pejabat kolonial yang ada di Cirebon serta kaantor keresidenan Cirebon. Anak-anak juga berkegiatan seru dengan memberi makan Rusa. Kemudian perjalanan dilanjutkan menuju Keraton Kacirebonan.

Rasa takjub dan antusias para siswa terasa ketika mereka sampai di Keraton Kacirebonan. Mereka berkeliling keraton dan juga museum, serta melukis topeng khas Cirebon di bawah rindangnya pepohonan di Keraton Kacirebonan. Beragam peninggalan sejarah yang ada di museum dan aneka ragam jenis topeng membangkitkan rasa ingin tahu para siswa. Banyak hal baru yang siswa pelajari melalui sejarah dan budaya Cirebon. Menjelang Zuhur, siswa kembali ke sekolah untuk beristirahat dan menuliskan laporan kegiatan outing class.
